Abstract:
Based on research by a bi-national team of researchers brought together by the National University of Singapore and the University of Paris, this seminar aims to capture and analyse China’s model of economic engagement in Southeast Asia. Crossing the theoretical literature in capital accumulation and empirical studies with international relations interpretation, the bi-national team assesses the complexity of the accumulation process overseas, and examines whether China’s investment in Southeast Asia might foster a more integrated regional economy at the expense of ASEAN’s political and economic stability. This Parisian-Singaporean research will contribute to the literature analysing the internationalisation of China.
