The Yoon Suk Yeol administration has initiated the Republic of Korea’s Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS) and the Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative (KASI) to make its mark as a “global pivotal state” and a middle power. To what extent is Seoul’s IPS similar or different from those of the United States and its allies, and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific? Is KASI an evolution and an “upgrade” from the preceding Moon administration’s New Southern Policy towards Southeast Asia? How can the Republic of Korea and ASEAN states cooperate for common interests amid intensifying geostrategic competition between the US and Chinese superpowers?
This inaugural webinar seeks to address the above questions, share different perspectives and strengthen the academic networks between the Sejong Institute and the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore, and their ASEAN counterparts.
