Synopsis:
Global Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) governance, once dominated by advanced economies, is now undergoing dramatic changes. Currently, there is a need for multilateral mechanisms, reconstruction of regional rules, upgrading of bilateral investment treaties and constant reform of domestic regulations. China’s approach is gaining greater international influence and recognition. Globally, China promotes progressive negotiations and regionally, it seeks mutual benefits. Bilaterally, it enhances diversified collaborations and unilaterally, it advances institutional opening. Compared to international practices, China’s facilitation efforts in global FDI governance are more welcomed—a fair rule of law is fundamental for global governance; cooperation initiatives serve as effective supplements; diverse collaboration is more practical; openness and inclusiveness are inevitable trends; and an optimised business environment is a key policy guarantee.
