DOA Archives
The DOA Archive Committee was established in 2024 after the Department inherited a storage room filled with old, dusty materials from our retired colleague, Dr Wong Yunn Chii. With over thirty years of service and a tenure as Head of Department from 2007 to 2016, Dr Wong played a pivotal role in consolidating this diverse collection. Many of the items were salvaged from discards and rubbish heaps generated during periods of institutional restructuring, changes in leadership, and renovations, while others are remnants from completed or abandoned research projects and a past exhibition.1
As an architectural historian, Dr Wong recognized the historical value in materials often dismissed as contemporary waste. We share this appreciation and are grateful for Dr Wong’s dedication. Through this website, our students and faculty hope to publish stories about the history and heritage of the Department that we have uncovered from these documents and media.
The hiring of student researchers to work on the archive and write the essays featured on this website is generously supported by the Lee Kip Lin Architectural Heritage Fund.

Situated next to a studio space, the archive room holds a diverse collection of media that records the eventful past of the Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore. Through this collection, students, faculty, and alumni can trace student works, past events, newspaper articles, teaching syllabi, books, journals, lecture slides, and many other media that have altogether shaped the history of the Department.
